Sentinel by Jennifer L. Armentrout

"Gods were like opossums. You could go your whole life without seeing one, but once you found one of them, you found the whole freaky family."
~Sentinel

It's a beautiful day for a war.

As the mortal world slowly slips into chaos of the godly kind, Alexandria Andros must overcome a stunning defeat that has left her shaken and in doubt of their ability to end this war once and for all.

And with all the obstacles between Alex and her happily-ever-after with the swoonworthy Aiden St. Delphi, they must now trust a deadly foe as they travel deep into the Underworld to release one of the most dangerous gods of all time.

In the stunning, action-packed climax to the bestselling Covenant series, Alex must face a terrible choice: the destruction of everything and everyone she holds dear… or the end of herself.

Arya: I have absolutely no words. Well, maybe I do, so you'll have to forgive the verbal diarrhea, er, literary diarrhea. I have honestly been waiting for Sentinel since I first read Half-Blood and fell in love with it. It just completely stole me over and held me in an impossibly tight grip, especially Aiden St. Delphi. I'd be lying if I ever said there was another character I wanted to come to life more. I've read a lot of books and none of them come even close to topping him. Seriously. So, when I read this, I have to admit I was a bit terrified, mostly because I didn't want Alex's story to come to an end. Really, she's like Rose Hathaway from Vampire Academy, except maybe just a tad bit crazier. Still, as I read through the story, my heart went from 'holy crap' to 'awwww' to 'oh my gosh are they serious?!' and finally more 'awwwwww!' Really, when I first understood what was happening to Alex, I just couldn't breathe. I'd never even thought something like that could happen, and again Jennifer managed to blow my socks off with her creativity. I mean seriously, I spent a lot of that time going 'what the hell just happened'. Of course there were the parts that made me honestly laugh my head off, like the part listed above, and one of the quotes that's a teaser actually, where Apollo threatened to turn Seth into a pink flower that smells like cat pee. That seriously made me laugh a lot. The entire book, even though I knew I should have been doing my homework, just blew me away. I couldn't peel my eyes from it no matter how hard I tried. My heart was pounding so fast I thought it would burst out of my chest. And at the ending... my good God, the ending. I swear I wanted to strangle Jennifer for a bit. There were tears pouring out of my eyes - thankfully I wasn't in class during the time. Can you say awkward? - I mean, its not supposed to happen like that! But then afterwards, she resolved it, and though I must say I would have preferred it not come to that at all, a part of me always knew it would happen... and it made me sad. Like the others blogs I've read have said: it really is a bittersweet ending for the most beautiful couple I've ever read about. They deserve each other perfectly, and being together for eternity is the best gift either could have.
Even though I say that, I felt like there were a few loose ends, especially with Seth. I, unlike a lot of people it seems, have never had anything against him. The lust of power makes people do stupid things, I get that, and I don't begrudge it to him. But I feel as if he doesn't have his ending yet, his happily ever after that he so desperately deserves. He repented, he really did, and ultimately, he did the most selfless thing ever. I really hope Jennifer writes in a story just for him, because God knows that boy has been to hell and back, literally. Seth matured a lot in this book, finally seeing what he's really done, and repenting for it. I was actually cheering for joy when he showed up and begged to be forgiven. His ego went down, and he understood what it was to be selfless. My heart went out to him, and again, I love him and Alex together. He deserves good things to happen to him.
Aiden. Ah, my favorite character for as long as I've know the existence of the Covenant series. There are just too many things to say about him! In this book, again I fell in love with him with his undying devotion to Alex, and finally, we see a little jealousy going on! I was laughing so hard at that, and really, he has a right to be jealous; Alex put him through a lot. But even so, he was just so sweet about everything, and he admits his fault, but turns them into ways where it's just the best for her. Through the book, though Aiden seems to stay as this God-like being that Alex has always seen in him, we also see his vulnerability, admission that he is not the best anymore, and in a way, he became younger in my eyes. It might have helped that Alex matured more to match his age, but she also still had her child-like happiness surrounding her. He was just so amazing I couldn't even breathe around how badly I wanted someone exactly like him. His devotion to her, to the very end just took my breath away. Aiden St. Delphi, you will definitely always be in my heart.
And finally is Alex. Alexandria Andros who reminded me of my all -time favorite heroine Rose Hathaway yet again with her stunts and vulnerability. In this book, we see the sense of fear that almost always seem to elude our beautiful protagonist, and we see her hesitate in the middle of a fight. A lot of the time, before I really knew what was happening, I wanted to shake her until her head came off her shoulders just because she was being so damn crazy! When I finally understood, and she went back to normal, I can't even tell you how relieved I was. It was like a huge load had been lifted off my shoulders! But the reason Aiden and she had for her sudden shift in mood, and Marcus' response? Priceless. I freaking loved that part. I just laughed so hard at that part I had problems breathing. Alex just matured so much in this book, and at the end, her actions were so totally selfless it blew me away. She's become such a great person that it's hard to let her go as I must do now.

9.5 stars! Congratulations!
Of course, there is me praying that there will be another story for the first time Aiden and Alex return back to Earth and everybody's response to their appearance, and when they see Seth again. Fingers crossed for such a story! I'd love it ^-^

Of course thank you to Jennifer L. Armentrout for writing this amazing story for us!

Of course, like all good things, this must come to an end, though I may not want it to.
Alex Andros, Aiden St. Delphi, Seth-whose-last-name-I-do-not-know, your story may be over, but you'll always be living in my heart.

~Much love
