Clockwork Angel by Cassandra Clare

"Tessa saw Jem lean in and whisper something to Will, whose mouth quirked up at the corner in a smile. "Indeed," Will said. "How could anyone despise us when we are so charming?" P.179

Clockwork Angel began with Tessa Gray arriving at England in search of her brother only to stumble on the Shadowhunter world when William Herondale saves her from entrapment where the 'Magister' was set to wed her and use her shape-shifting powers. This then led her to meet the occupants of the London Institute, Willaim (Will) Herondale, James (Jem) Carstairs, Charlotte Fairchild-Branwell, Henry Branwell, Jessamine Lovelace and Sophie Collins, and discover the world hidden within the shadows, of warlocks, demons, faeries, werewolves, vampires, angels and automatons. This is the Shadow World, the one you never wanted to know about.

Arya: Clockwork Angel. Two words: Will. Herondale. For all you chickies out there, if your boyfriend is a jerk, read about Will and you'll never want anyone else again. Unless you're team Jem or Jace. If you've already read The Mortal Instruments you can see, as I have, where Jace gets his awesome attitude from. Please note the sarcasm on the word 'awesome' xD. I really did love Tessa; she's a much stronger, much more awe-inspiring heroine than Clary, who while is not content to let Jace do all the dirty work for her, is also a bit clingy. Jem, I cannot even tell you about how cute this man is! He is a steady rock for Tessa, always being there when she needs him and always listening without judging and giving the best advice. Will though, Will is a man who can make any person, man or woman, melt with mushiness and love. His complete dedication to Tessa rivalled with the fact that he pushes her away at the same time leads to a hugely dynamic character filled with secrets you just want to tear out of him. No spoilers from me, but the twist at the end made my heart break then fixed it up again, then filled me up with anxiety for the next book. The way Cassie Clare made this different from the Mortal Instruments is that instead of Shadowhunters to fight against, she created automatons, which are, in all senses, robots. Robots against demons hunters in Victorian London? Sign me up! The plot is awesome, with the perfect combination of fighting, demons,  hot men and heart break. You'll never regret picking this book up. And now that I'm done my spew, on to Kay!

Kay: Aww thank you! Having already read the Mortal Instruments I found that the Infernal Devices captured me into the Shadowhunters world once again, but this time through the streets of Victorian London. I love historic fiction, and having Cassandra Clare mix both old London and the mystical Shadowhunters together led me to be excited for the series. I found that I was able to relate to Tessa with her love of reading, discover Will to be my next boyfriend and Jem to be the sweet older brother that I wish to have. As this is the first book in the series it was filled with introductions and details of Victorian London. Although one would have expected to be quite slow, Cassandra Clare didn't disappoint with her action filled details of the wonderful Shadowhunters and their badass fighting. Our enemy this time is automatons, which was the principle fascination at that time, which made them much more invincible then simple demons in the Mortal Instruments as they are pretty much robots who can function even if their limbs are cut off!  This story not only revolves around the Shadowhunters however, it also revolves around its characters. The book is written in third person allowing is switch through a few different views besides Tessa's. As the story progresses we learn more about the characters and their own personal problems, which later leads us into the second book Clockwork Prince. I sure hope you'll enjoy this book as much as I do! Happy reading!
